The Lyonel Feininger Project LLC
The Lyonel Feininger Project LLC is the product of nearly fifty years' study of artist Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956) by Achim Moeller, both as a scholar and expert and as a representative of the Lyonel Feininger Family Trusts. From its founding more than 20 years ago, the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC has worked to foster scholarship on the life and work of Lyonel Feininger by providing authentication, exhibition consultation, and compiling the Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings. The Lyonel Feininger Project LLC is the foremost private archive dedicated to the artist. In addition to its New York office, the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC has recently established a presence in Berlin in response to queries on both sides of the Atlantic.
Auction houses, museums, and collectors frequently approach Achim Moeller with requests regarding the authenticity of works attributed to the artist. Through the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, Achim Moeller has been providing such written opinions since 1987. In the past 26 years, he has issued more than 1200 certificates of authenticity and has been able to identify several hundreds of fake works. All works that are determined authentic are registered with an individual certificate number in the archives of the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, allowing owners, sellers and buyers of works peace of mind in an art market increasingly flooded with forgeries.
As the internationally recognized authority on the life and work of Lyonel Feininger, Achim Moeller is regularly consulted by public institutions regarding major exhibitions. He has acted as a special consultant for numerous retrospectives, including “Lyonel Feininger: At the Edge of the World” (2011) organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and “Lyonel Feininger: Von Gelmeroda nach Manhattan,” (1999) at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin and the Haus der Kunst, Munich. Achim Moeller has also served as the editor of publications and exhibition catalogues including Years of Friendship, 1944-1956: The Correspondence of Lyonel Feininger and Mark Tobey (1991) and Lyonel Feininger: Drawings and Watercolors from the Julia Feininger Estate (2011).
Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings
Achim Moeller is currently compiling the three-volume Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings by Lyonel Feininger. Volume I (1907-1918) is planned for completion in 2014, with volumes II (1919-1936) and III (1937-1956) to follow. The Catalogue Raisonné will be the first comprehensive list of paintings since that which was compiled by Lyonel Feininger’s wife, Julia, and published in Hans Hess’ book on Lyonel Feininger in 1959. With its in-depth provenance, literature and exhibition information the Catalogue Raisonné will provide a definitive compendium on the life and work of Lyonel Feininger.

Mission and History
The Mark Tobey Project LLC is the product of more than twenty years’ research by Achim Moeller on the American artist Mark Tobey (1890–1976.) The core of the Project's now extensive archive is based on materials compiled by curator Paul Cummings, in the preparation of a catalogue raisoneé of the artist's work. Achim Moeller has maintained and expanded this archive, and in 2007 established the Mark Tobey Project LLC to promote the legacy of the artist through research initiatives, authentications, and collaborative exhibitions and publications with institutions worldwide.
Achim Moeller regularly serves in an advisory capacity for exhibitions and publications, on the artist’s work, sharing archival materials with institutions and independent scholars alike. He has organized exhibitions in both New York and Berlin, including, most recently, “Mark Tobey: Between East and West” (2013,) “Between Friends: Balla + Dorazio, Feininger +Tobey” (2012) and “Mark Tobey: Selected Works: 1944-1970” (2011.) He is the general editor of Years of Friendship, 1944–1956: The Correspondence of Lyonel Feininger and Mark Tobey (Hatje Cantz, 2006.)
As managing principal of the Mark Tobey Project LLC, Achim Moeller is approached by auction houses, galleries, museums, and collectors regarding the authenticity of works attributed to the artist. A work determined to be authentic in the opinion of the Mark Tobey Project LLC is assigned a numbered certificate and is included in the archive.
