More than eighty paintings, sculptures, and drawings from the collection of the Honorable John C. Whitehead (1922 – 2015) will be offered for sale at Christie’s New York on May 14 and 15. Acquired over three decades by John C. Whitehead and his art advisor Achim Moeller, the collection encompasses major works by Gustave Caillebotte, Honoré Daumier, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, and Auguste Rodin. The auction catalogue includes tributes by Peter Lord Carrington, the Honorable Dr. Henry Kissinger, Keith Christiansen, Chairman of the Department of European Paintings at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Achim Moeller.
