Albert Marquet is born in Bordeaux, France.

Enrolls in the École des arts décoratifs, Paris where he meets and befriends Matisse.
 

1897

Enters Gustave Moreau’s studio at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris where he meets Rouault.
 

1900

Works with Matisse to decorate the Grand Palais for the Paris Exposition.
 

1901

Exhibits at the Salon des Indépendants.
 

1904-06

Lives in Normandy with Raoul Dufy.

1905

Exhibits in the Salon d’Automne with Vlaminck, Derain and Matisse.
 

1906

Influenced by Japanese brush paintings, he develops an animated and spontaneous style of ink drawing.
 

1907

Stays with Matisse and Camoin in London. His first solo exhibition is held at the Galerie Druet, Paris.
 

1910-14

Paints a series of nudes.
 

1912

Travels to Morocco.
 

1947

Dies suddenly in Paris on June 14.
